English Writing

Hello and welcome to my blog post. Today’s blog post will be about my English writing. I am sharing you guys this in hope of helping or inspiring anyone reading this. Feel free to give any advice as it may be helpful for me in the future of my writing.

Statement of intent:

The purpose of this writing is expressing my way of using different language features and showing how I use a wide range of vocabulary. I will show my way of writing in clear information by using a standard process. I want to write about the beach because there’s a lot of different things in your sight that are or could happen. It’s a place where your senses suddenly become heightened from your sight to your smell and taste to what you hear. It’s also a place of freedom and relaxation where you thoughts go away and you’re just at one with the air. My audience will be the reader and the writer. The reason I will be writing to myself as well is because I want to impress not only my audience by myself as well. I want to shock myself and be able to question my own abilities. My mood of writing will be around the aspect of symphony, rhythm, and clearness. This style of writing will also help me stay in line with my ideas and stay in sync.

Writing:

The beach is where the ocean meets the land and collides to form one. As I let my foot break through the relaxed sand I stare at the never ending fulfillness of water. The smell of hot chips spreads throughout the area like the golden sunlight. Seeing the golden sun reminds me of the ripples from the sea that comes back and forth. Laughter and chatter echoes through this place as I let my mind and thoughts drift of like I’m in space.

My feet start to burn to the scorching hot concrete. While I’m walking around scanning for something to eat, I lay my eyes on some crumpets at a stand and buy two without hesitation. As I let the two crumpets drown down my mouth, I see a lifelike cinderella girl walking past me. Glancing at her face with my heart thinking she’s so majestic and admiring. I’m eager to approach her and say something but I hold back. The sun slowly comes down wondering if I should make the first move, listening to my heart I march forward, towards her. I get to her and tap her on the shoulder. With her attention I express my thoughts and feelings “ Excuse me I saw you from a distance and thought you looked beautiful. I was wondering if we could hangout?” “Yes,” she replied. We walk over to the beach area and sit down. Laughing and yapping, we looked like a happy couple in the silence of our time. I held her hand and leaned over whispering the words “I love you” and then kissed her. I feel a sensation of clearness in my mind. It went silent at the most, listening to her heavy breathing I felt a little bit of guilt. Thinking could this be real, that I found my perfect melody to my song. She stood up and left without a word. I thought to myself what I did wrong until she came back with a bouquet of flowers. Then in style she dropped down on her knees and asked “Will you be my partner” I replied “Yes” and we kissed.

Comments will be read by me so feel free to do so thank you for your time.

Alfred Wegener

Hello and welcome

In science we have been talking and learning a lot about the Earth’s core and its current state at this moment especially with global warming and water rising. Alfred Wegener is a very important person that if we weren’t alive scientists would have a very hard time predicting what the global world could look like in the future. That is why in today’s blog post I will be talking about his theories that he had and give you guys a better picture of Who this guy is and why he’s still this popular and important in our generation.

  1. Who was Alfred Wegener?
Alfred Wegener was a German meteorologist and geophysicist.
  2. What did Alfred Wegener discover, and what theory did he propose?
Alfred Wegener discovered the continental drift which was the drift of continents breaking apart
  3. What evidence did Wegener use to support his theory of continental drift?
Alfred’s theory was when he looked at the world map the continents could be put together meaning all continents use to be one. His evidence to back this up were fossils from one continent were also connected to another continent.
  4. Why was Wegener’s theory not accepted at first?
He did not have a mechanism for the continents to drift apart meaning people thought the continents stayed like that forever an that it was immovable
  5. How does Alfred Wegener’s theory connect to the modern idea of plate tectonics?
The plates are always moving and interacting in a process called plate tectonics
  6. What are tectonic plates, and what causes them to move?
The heat from radioactive processes within the planet’s interior causes the plates to move, sometimes toward and sometimes away from each other.

What types of natural events or landforms are caused by tectonic plate movement?
Natural events like the earthquakes are caused by tectonic plates when they collide

These are just some of the more popular questions people might ask an I hope this helps you as now you know more about our world and who Alfred Wegener is.

You’re welcome.

Medicine and health assesment

Hello and welcome

In today’s blog post I will be talking about my medicine and health assessment that I completed this Monday. What is climate change?

Hello and welcome

In this blog post I will be explaining what climate change is and what is causing climate change

What is climate change?

Before we look at other things that surround climate change we have to first understand what climate change is. Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. These shifts may be natural, but since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels (like coal, oil and gas), which produces heat-trapping gases.

What is causing climate change?

Climate change is caused by the natural population us human beings cause. From a simple plastic wrap to metal rods from keeping coca cola cans together from the supermarket. We throw these daily life rubbish anywhere we go an these type of acts are the real problem for climate change.

Medicine Safety

Hello and welcome

In today’s blog post I will be talking about the safety of medicine and what you need to do in case of any emergency with medicine.

The best way to be careful and safe around any medicine is to read the label. Although there is a lot of information to take in, it is very useful for your safety. Reading the name, what the medicine does, how much you need to take, when you should take it, can be very life saving if you don’t know what to do so just read the label properly.

What could teenagers do to be safe with medicine?

  1. Read the label properly
  2. Ask caregivers or a local pharmacy about the medicine
  3. Don’t share your medicine with someone else
  4. Don’t use someone else’s medicine
  5. Keep your medicine away from anyone else
  6. Keep your medicine out of the bathroom as it may get warm

Thank you for reading my blog post I hope it helps you.Bye

Traditional Maori Games

Hello and welcome today I will be talking about some traditional Maori games and how to play them, instructions and tips and tricks when playing.

Te Uru, Tapuae and Ki O Rahi

Te uru is a traditional Maori game that involves 6 players (3 a side). A netball sized court is needed or even bigger for larger groups.

Equipment required:

  • Piece of Tī Kōuka, Block of wood, Kī or Triangle ball (multi directional ball found in most P.E departments)
  • Cones
  • Whariki / Place mats
  • Bibs or Ripper tags for team I.D

Guidlines:

  1. Attack: Pass the ti or kī to one of your players standing on a mat to score points. Player (standing on mat) must catch and control the ti, ki, or poi on the full with an open hand.
  2. Defense: Stop the other team from scoring points by intercepting a passed ti or kī.
  3. How to score points: Catch near hips = 1 mat removed, catch above the head = 2 mats removed, catch ti or kī on the back of the neck without using your hands = game winner.
  4. ti or kī is passed into the field of play by the Kaiwawao (referee) at the beginning of the game and after each score.
  5. Alternatively each team can start halves or quarters and defending team starts after each score.
  6. The kī cannot go directly from defense to the attacking zone; it must be passed to the players in the middle zone.
  7. Must be caught open handed to score, when using a kī or block.
  8. If it is caught waist high  take away 1 mat, head high take away 2 mats, catches behind the neck wins the game.

Tapu Ae is one of many Kī (ball) game variations. Traditionally the Pawero area’s on the field were sometimes specially constructed mounds of dirt. 6 minimum is needed and a netball sized court or even bigger.

Equipment required:

  • 6-10 cones to be the Tupu
  • 6-10 Tennis balls to put on top of the Tupu/cones
  • Kī/ball or just a normal netball/soccer/foam ball
  • Netball/Basketball court or Field marking paint
  • Bibs or Rippah tags to identify teams.

Guidelines

  1. Start the games by throwing the Kī into Te Ao (the middle zone) this is done after each tupu hit.
  2. If a team losses possession out of bounds over the sides, then they hand over the Kī to the opposition.
  3. If it goes out over the back, the defensive teams kaitiaki gets the Kī.
  4. The Kī must be touched by your team in Te Ao, before the attack can gain possession.
  5. If you are using a Poi Toa, attackers need to keep the poi swinging, if the defender is close enough to be hit by the Poi, then they are too close, if 2 people catch the Poi at the same time then the closest to the ki (head/ball) retains possession (also refer to Poi Toa)

Ki O Rahi is played for 4 quarters or 2 halves of a set time, teams alternate roles of Kīoma and Taniwha at half or quarter time. Kīoma score by touching Pou/s with the Kī (for potential points) then running the Kī through Te Roto and placing it down in Pawero to convert pou touches into points. Kīoma stop the other team, Taniwha.

Equipment required:

Equipment needed 1 tupu approx 40 gallon drum or rubbish bin. 7 pou. Ki, woven flax ball, normal ball, rocks, rolled up jersey or anything. Field marking.

Guidelines

  • Play is started from te Marama, with Kioma throw or kick the ki to a team mate in Pawero area.
  • They attempt to pass the ki to team mate who touches a pou (for a potential point) then can touch more pou to accumulate more potential points or run it through te roto  then place the ki on or over the Pawero line to convert all pou touches into points on the board. (this is the only time they can enter te roto).
  • Kioma can not go through or over te ara to score.
  • If a kioma player is “tagged” in te roto while trying to score it is a hand over, if they run into te roto and run or pass the ki back out with out being touch they retain possession but the pou touches are recounted.
  • Kioma scores and play restarts with a kick off from te marama.
  • Out of bounds, last team in possession hand over to other team.
  • Taniwha scores by hitting the tupu with the ki and play carries on.
  • Jump shots may be allowed if the taniwha player jumps from te roto and releases the ki before landing in Pawero, they must leave immediattely and not affect play or Kioma gain possession.
  • Players in possession must be moving or they have 3-5 seconds to pass or shot or hand it over.
  • Players can not enter te ara, unless they are kioma moving between pawero and te ao.
  • Players may get the ki from other zones as long as part of their body stays in their legal zone, Taniwha may take jump shots at the tupu as long as the ball is released before they touch the ground. (some Iwi play no entering other zones or penalties may occur) This is called the Turangawaewae rule.
  • We have attached a couple of variations of how it can be played. Keep an eye out on this site for video instructions!

Books vs Devices: Which helps me more with my learning ?

Hello and welcome

This blog post will be a little different from the blogs that I have been posting on my account. This blog post is about Books vs Devices or Old school vs New school.

Which helps me more with my learning ?

Books are a great aspect of learning that you can share with others because everything is clean of your mind no other research or someone else words are put on to your piece of paper just you, your hand and a pencil to write with. Books help me more with my learning because It’s easier to write for me an it feels better.

Personal preference

Books or devices it is all personal preference weather someone likes to type away with there fingers or use there hands to smoothly create a story, but when you look at it at face value computers and devices are the way to go for optimal work as this world is evolving around the use of technology especially for company’s like apple, Microsoft and Samsung. It it just more efficient an useful compared to the old school using books.

Thank you for reading my blog post I hope you found this useful to your time, feel free to give any feedback you would like to as well. Your welcome

Guitar (Music class)

Hello and welcome

Currently in music class we have been learning how to play different chords on the guitar, so far I have learned how to play G major, D major and E minor. Our class teacher also taught us about the chord diagram and what the lines mean and how exactly they tell us what to play when to play it. The number on the chord diagram means what finger you use to play the chord an depending on what chord or string its on that is the string you play on the guitar.

Here are some pictures to show you what I am explaing

Thank you for looking at my blog post I hope this helps you an adds some more information you may need in the future. Feel free to comment on my blog post any feedback is something for me to learn an help me.

PE Yr 10 Touch

Hello and Welcome

In PE We have been studying a range of touch skills as part of our programme. We have learned about how to correctly perform some skills. We have learned about, the fundamentals and basic such as passing and catching.

I have chosen to  focus on passing, because it was one of the more important basics when it comes to touch. Being able to pass a long distance with power or being able to softly pass with precise, is a great skill to have as you play along with you team or friends.

A special part of information that i would like to share as i have had my journey on this programme. Is to be communicative and keep calm. Being a person who can talk around the field at certain times can help the team as some teammates may not know what to do, it keeps people alerted on what there role is an what they need to achieve. If i want to pass to someone im not able to pass to them if they are looking away, without dropping the ball. But if i use my communication skills an call out their name which will draw the attention from something else to me we are able to successful pass and catch a rugby ball.

Keeping calm is an aspect of rugby They don’t receive a lot of attention due to it being a little controversial. But keeping calm allows you to not only be alerted by everything it means you can move freely without being nervous or clueless. If you keep calm with a good pace and be communicating. Everything will be easier than it is to play quiet and nervous.

There were a number of ways that I demonstrated respect towards other students during this unit. I did this by respecting that not everyone is going to be good in touch, not everyone is going to catch the ball, or be able to pass. So respecting that someone hasn’t played allows me to help them move forward in the game that we are playing. Showing respect enhances all four hauora pillars.

It is important that I develop resilience when we experience success or failure because losing an failure is normal an there is only one way to go from failure and that is to either win or keep moving forward. I can build my resilience when I experience success or failure by keep trying to improve by myself to help out my team.

Thank you for looking at my blog post. I hope this helps you or your friends
